Hi, my name is Jaycee. I am 18 years old and have been working at My Jamii Cafe for 2 years. I started working at the cafe as I could not find a college course that I enjoyed and the cafe was a great opportunity for me to take on.
Since being at the cafe I have learnt about different allergies in food, can make different sandwiches and have done lots of food hygiene. I also learnt how to use the till and count money in a fast paced environment.
I also had the opportunity to run a Lego club at the cafe for younger people and enjoyed it a lot.
I have enjoyed helping the work experience students that come to the cafe and showing them how to do certain things, I enjoy teaching and hope to one day be in that industry, so when work experience come in I feel that is my strong point. I also enjoy chatting to the customers and making them feel welcome.
My colleagues are really nice and I like working with them as a team.
Here on work experience, I've enjoyed cooking, especially baking brownies.
The people here are my favourite part because they're nice to me and help me follow instructions and the rules in the cafe.
I've really liked greeting customers, mopping floors and wiping tables. It's been a fun two weeks!
I like working here at My Jamii Cafe because it has a friendly environment and is a good place to work. Staff are nice and friendly.
I've been working here for about two years (since it began) and the best thing for me is helping out and teaching work experience skills and I like serving customers on till. I like working at the till as I enjoy counting cash!
Here at My Jamii Cafe, I've had loads of fun so far working here due to the kind-hearted staff and the general calm atmosphere here. The goal of the Jamii project is really inspiring to see particularly when you see it first-hand help lots of young people from all backgrounds to come together for experience in the workplace and to serve customers (with awesome food!).
Also, the community here are great due to their non-stop support of the cafe and what it stands for. They all really get involved in all activities from donating to attending clubs like the baby club or Lego club and it's great to know that people appreciate the cafe just as much as I do!
The cafe's really been a great place to work so far to see how the world of work plays out and I'm excited for next week too!
My Jamii café is one of the things I love, it’s so different in style, people, area and more. That’s why I enjoy working here. The customers are so kind and friendly, also I get to see our customers adorable, cute and must I say beautiful baby’s every day. This brings an unstoppable smile to my face.
Also while working here I’ve learned so many things, like for example team work, how to make different types of food and presentation of meals. I could go on forever. There is just so much to do and learn. And the people I work with are so open and caring about one another. Which makes me even more happy to come to work every day. Because the fact that it is a melo, chilled back environment makes it comfortable setting for me.
Hey there, well I can’t quite believe that we are nearly at our one year anniversary!! This year has flown by. The café has changed so much since we first opened. And I can’t wait to see what’s next.
Our Jamii family has tripled in size since opening and we now have 4 apprentices enrolled with us. And I’m sure if you are one of our regular customers you will have no doubt seen how much Krystal and Jaycee (apprentices who have been with us from day one) have grown so much.
So we wanted to give the opportunity for you to hear all about what they get up to working at my Jamii café. What projects they are working on, when they learnt a new skill, when they challenge themselves and come through the other side. When they survived the Friday morning coffees rush.
This is also documentation for them to be able to look back and see how much they have changed and grown.
We love our customers and could not have got this far without all your love and support. So thank you.
Zoe (Cafe Manager)
